Running from 2 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, Es Devlin: Other Worlds brings three decades of the British artist and stage designer’s work to London, tracing the connections between sculpture, performance, music, language and light.
Es Devlin: Other Worlds — What to See
At the Design Museum in Kensington, Es Devlin: Other Worlds examines a practice that extends beyond conventional exhibition design. Devlin’s projects range from the London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony to theatrical productions, concert stages and large-scale public installations. The exhibition brings together artworks, films, installations and the largest presentation of her archive to date.
Her work often places audiences inside carefully constructed visual environments, where text, movement and light shape the way a space is understood. For the London 2012 Closing Ceremony, Devlin helped create a production that connected British music, literature and performance. Her theatre work includes The Lehman Trilogy, while her concert projects have included stage designs for major international performers and the Super Bowl halftime show.

From the studio to the stage
One of the exhibition’s central features is the 30-Year Desk, a circular display bringing together drawings, photographs, documents and models from Devlin’s practice. A replica of her London studio and the installation Archive Unboxed reveal the sketches, collages, diaries and early drawings behind finished commissions. The emphasis is on how ideas develop, rather than on finished productions alone.
Other highlights include Forest of Us, first presented in Miami in 2021, and a reworking of Come Home Again, Devlin’s installation focused on endangered wildlife. Models and archival material also document The Lehman Trilogy, the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony and the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show. Together, these projects show how her visual language moves between theatre, live music, public art and museum spaces.
