Ritz-Carlton Residences Brooklyn will convert the former Hotel Bossert at 98 Montague Street into private residences, combining the preservation of a 1909 Brooklyn Heights building with Ritz-Carlton residential services.
Ritz-Carlton Residences Brooklyn Heights
The former Hotel Bossert is entering its next chapter as Ritz-Carlton Residences Brooklyn, marking the brand’s first residential project in Brooklyn. Marriott International and SomeraRoad are developing the conversion, with construction expected to begin later in 2026 and completion anticipated in 2029.
The building was designed by Helmle & Huberty and opened in 1909 as a residential hotel. Its Renaissance Revival architecture includes a geometric brick façade, limestone and granite base, terra-cotta detailing and arched windows. The current scheme by SLCE Architects retains key historic elements while adapting the building for condominium use.
The History of Hotel Bossert
The Bossert became particularly associated with Brooklyn’s social and sporting history. In 1955, its lobby hosted celebrations after the Brooklyn Dodgers won the World Series. The building later stood vacant for more than a decade before SomeraRoad acquired it in 2025.
What the New Residences Will Include
The planned Ritz-Carlton Residences Brooklyn will include dedicated residential services and a 24-hour-attended lobby. Owners will also receive access to Marriott’s ONVIA Residence Owner Recognition Program. A roughly 3,200-square-foot restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group is planned at ground level, marking the group’s first full-service Brooklyn restaurant.
The project is therefore less a new-build branded residence than an adaptive reuse of one of Brooklyn Heights’ longstanding residential hotels, with its architectural fabric forming a central part of the proposition.
