Norman Foster’s first wristwatch is a pair of automatic Grade 5 titanium models created with watchmaker Lebond and the Design & Innovation Unit of the Norman Foster Foundation. Their practical proposition is unusually clear: a compact 38.5mm case, a strap integrated into its outline and a rotating bezel that can display a second time zone. As Wallpaper’s account of Foster’s watch debut confirms, this is the architect’s first move into watch design, not a restyled edition of an existing celebrity watch.

From building scale to wrist scale

The most Foster-specific decision is the removal of conventional lugs. The FKM rubber strap meets the case as a continuation rather than an attachment, giving the watch a single, controlled silhouette. Restrained typography and the knurled bezel keep that logic visible without turning the dial into an architectural sketch.

This is where the project has substance beyond the signature. Foster has reconsidered the junctions between parts, not simply chosen a colour. Yet continuity in a rendering does not prove comfort: an integrated strap can make fit more dependent on wrist shape, and that needs an in-person assessment.

Designed for travel and daily wear

According to Lebond’s current Black Edition specifications, the case is 10mm thick, water-resistant to 50 metres and paired with an interchangeable integrated strap. The bidirectional 12-hour bezel reads another time zone against the main hour hand. It is a simple travel aid rather than a dedicated GMT movement, but one that keeps the dial uncluttered.

Grade 5 titanium should be understood here as a material choice, not a promise of universal comfort or durability. Lebond attributes the choice to lightness, strength and resistance to corrosion; the dimensions and actual wrist balance still matter more to a buyer than the claim alone.

What the €3,500 proposition includes

Both the natural-titanium and black-DLC versions use an ETA 2892-A2 automatic movement with a stated 50-hour power reserve. That is familiar underlying watchmaking; the distinctive work lies in the case, dial, strap and travel bezel. Each watch is individually numbered, but Lebond states no production cap, so numbering should not be mistaken for verified scarcity.

Checked on 2 November 2026, the Lebond Norman Foster Black Edition listing and Lebond Norman Foster Natural Titanium Edition listing both showed the watches available to order at €3,500. The company’s online sales terms explain the tax and warranty position: listed prices exclude VAT and other taxes, duties may apply outside the EU, and the standard warranty is three years, with a five-year extended option. Delivery timing varies by item and should be confirmed before purchase.

On the available evidence, Foster’s watch has a coherent everyday design proposition beyond his name: its architecture is expressed through proportion, continuity and a legible travel function. The remaining questions are tactile—strap fit, bezel feel, finishing and long-term service—and cannot be settled by specifications or authorship.
