Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced its new High Precision Guarantee (HPG) Seal in September 2026, combining chronometric testing with standards for movement finishing. The proprietary certification is currently associated with the Master Control Chronometre collection and is being progressively extended across the maison’s collections.

Jaeger-LeCoultre High Precision Guarantee: What It Tests

The HPG protocol is designed to test a watch under conditions intended to resemble daily wear rather than a single controlled laboratory measurement. The three-day process assesses altitude, shocks, positions and temperature. The calibre is first tested for pressure variations equivalent to conditions from sea level to 1,004 metres. Once cased, the watch undergoes tests combining positions, impacts and temperatures between 18°C and 35°C.

The purpose is to assess how consistently the watch maintains chronometric performance as conditions change. The HPG mark is engraved on the caseback of certified watches.

Precision and Movement Finishing

HPG also covers decoration. A qualifying calibre must incorporate at least six of eight traditional finishing techniques, including bevelling, Côtes de Genève, perlage, burnishing and polished screw heads. Finishing here is not simply a visual requirement. Jaeger-LeCoultre treats the precision of execution as part of its broader standard for movement quality.

How HPG Relates to the 1,000 Hours Control

The HPG Seal builds on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 1,000 Hours Control, introduced in 1992. That programme subjects the calibre and fully assembled watch to an extensive series of controls over 1,000 hours. HPG adds an integrated dynamic protocol and combines chronometric testing with movement finishing under one proprietary certification.

For a buyer, the HPG Seal is therefore best understood as a statement of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s own testing and finishing standards. It does not mean that an HPG-certified watch is objectively superior to every watch without the seal. It tells the buyer what the manufacture has tested and the level of finishing it requires.
