The 83rd Venice Film Festival is running on the Lido from 2–12 September 2026, with 21 films in competition, major international premieres and a programme linking cinema with the wider autumn cultural calendar.

The Venice Film Festival 2026 is now underway on the Lido, where the 83rd edition of the Venice International Film Festival runs from 2 to 12 September. Organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera, the festival remains one of the first major points of focus in the international autumn film season.

The principal Venice Film Festival programme centres on Venezia 83, an international competition of 21 feature films presented as world premieres. Among the filmmakers in competition are Danny Boyle with Ink, Martin McDonagh with Wild Horse Nine, Florian Zeller with Bunker, Lee Chang-dong with Possible Love and Casey Affleck with Company.

The range of subjects is equally notable. Boyle's Ink examines Rupert Murdoch's rise in British media, while McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine looks at the legacy of CIA activity around the 1973 Chilean coup. Zeller's Bunker, starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, centres on a wealthy client's survival bunker and questions of power, isolation and technology.

Beyond the competition, the Lido programme includes out-of-competition premieres, Orizzonti, Venice Classics and Venice Immersive. The festival also continues to function as a meeting point for cinema, fashion, international guests and the hospitality circuit around the Lido. Public screenings are available alongside accredited and invitation-only screenings, depending on the programme.

The Venice Film Festival 2026 concludes on 12 September. The Golden Lion and other official awards will be presented during the closing ceremony, making the final weekend the key point for the festival's competitive results.
