Songtei Kyoto, Shangri-La Signatures is planned opposite Nijo Castle, bringing a 77-room residential-style hotel to one of Kyoto’s most historically significant settings.

Songtei Kyoto and Its Nijo Castle Setting

Kyoto’s next major hotel opening will take shape directly opposite Nijo Castle. Songtei Kyoto, Shangri-La Signatures is planned on the former residence site of the Kyoto Shoshidai, the Edo-period office representing the shogunate in Kyoto. The 77-key property is Shangri-La Signatures’ second address, following The Silk Lakehouse in Hangzhou.

The hotel is designed around its setting rather than a large urban-hotel format. Rooms and suites will frame views towards Nijo Castle’s Kita Ote-mon, its gardens and the surrounding landscape. Shangri-La describes the architectural language as a contemporary interpretation of Kyoto’s Edo-period residences, with Shoin-style detailing, timber and handcrafted materials referenced in pre-opening materials.

Rooms, Dining and Wellness

Songtei Kyoto will have 77 rooms and suites, with five room categories indicated in pre-opening documentation. The wellness facilities are planned to include a private spa, indoor and outdoor hot baths, an indoor pool and gym.

Dining will span four venues: an all-day dining lounge, Chinese restaurant, kappo-sushi counter and evening bar. Restaurant names, chefs and detailed room categories have not yet been publicly released.

Shangri-La currently says first guests are expected in late 2026, with facilities opening progressively before the full property unveiling in early 2027. Booking details and public room rates have not yet been released.
