Regent is taking over one of Bora Bora’s established resorts, with the former InterContinental property scheduled to reopen in late 2027 as an 84-villa, entirely overwater resort.

Regent Bora Bora: What Is Changing

Bora Bora’s high-end hotel landscape is set for a significant change. The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa closed on 1 June 2026 for extensive renovation and is scheduled to reopen in late 2027 as Regent Bora Bora, marking Regent’s first property in French Polynesia.

The resort occupies a private motu on the eastern edge of Bora Bora’s lagoon. Under the Regent name, it will retain an all-overwater format, with 84 villas, direct lagoon access and views towards Mount Otemanu and the open Pacific.

For travellers, the important distinction is that this is a transformation rather than a new-build resort. The existing property, which opened in 2006, is being substantially renovated before returning under a different brand. The final accommodation categories, restaurant programme and other post-renovation facilities have not yet been fully detailed by IHG.

Planning a Bora Bora Stay

Regent Bora Bora is not currently open or bookable for stays. IHG’s latest announcement gives only a late-2027 reopening window, with no specific opening date published. Travellers planning Bora Bora for 2026 or earlier in 2027 therefore need to consider other resorts on the island.

The project is significant within the destination because it preserves the private-motu, all-overwater configuration while repositioning an established resort under Regent. More details on the finished property are expected as the renovation progresses.
