Kerry James Marshall Paris 2026 brings the American artist’s first French retrospective to the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris from 18 September 2026 to 24 January 2027. Marshall, born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1955, is known for large-scale paintings centred on Black figures and for engaging with European art history, American visual culture and the histories of the African diaspora.
The Works in The Histories
The Kerry James Marshall exhibition in Paris brings together 70 works spanning more than four decades, primarily paintings alongside prints, drawings and sculpture. Eight new paintings were made specifically for the exhibition, giving the Paris presentation material created for this project rather than simply assembling an existing survey. The exhibition was originated by London’s Royal Academy of Arts in collaboration with Kunsthaus Zürich.
The museum’s programme also includes four conferences running through January, with artists, historians, curators and specialists discussing Marshall’s practice from transatlantic and interdisciplinary perspectives. Conference dates currently listed are 5 November, 3 December and 14 January, following the opening conversation with Marshall on 18 September.
Dates and Venue in Paris
The Musée d’Art Moderne Paris is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, with Thursday opening until 21:30. Regular exhibition admission is €17. The museum is at 11 Avenue du Président Wilson in the 16th arrondissement.
