Gustave Fayet Paris 2026 begins at Fondation Louis Vuitton on 9 October, with Gustave Fayet, Collector–Creator. Icons of Modern Art running until 8 March 2027. The exhibition occupies the foundation’s galleries in a two-part presentation: Fayet as collector and Fayet as creator.

More than 250 works associated with his former collection are being brought together, including works by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Odilon Redon, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard and Henri Matisse. The exhibition also presents 325 works by Fayet himself, many of which have not previously been shown publicly.

For collectors, the interest lies in the reconstruction of a dispersed collection rather than a conventional survey of individual artists. Fayet acquired works at a formative moment in modern art and maintained relationships with artists including Gauguin and Redon. His own work adds a second perspective: the collector was also a practicing artist and creator in decorative arts.

One of the exhibition’s principal works is Vincent van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear (January 1889), shown alongside Gauguin’s Three Tahitians (1899).

For an international visitor planning a Paris art itinerary this autumn, Gustave Fayet Paris 2026 provides a focused look at how one early-20th-century collector assembled an artistic world — and how that collection can be reconsidered nearly a century after its dispersal.
