Redefining Luxury - 25th Anniversary of Jumeirah Burj Al Arab
On Sunday 01 December, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab celebrated its 25th anniversary, having changed the face of hospitality and helped to build a reputation for Dubai as a global leader in luxury since 1999. As Jumeirah looks to the future with bold expansion plans and a commitment to fostering cultural connections, the brand is reaffirming its commitment to the rich hospitality and pioneering spirit that made it what it is today.
First entry into Africa - Jumeirah Thanda Island and Jumeirah Thanda Safari
Jumeirah is expanding its portfolio with its first entry into Africa, welcoming two iconic destinations to the brand’s international portfolio: Jumeirah Thanda Island in Tanzania, and Jumeirah Thanda Safari in South Africa, both welcoming guests from 1 December 2024. Jumeirah Thanda Island is an exclusive-use remote island in the protected Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve off the coast of Tanzania, while Jumeirah Thanda Safari is situated in one of the most exclusive Big Five private game reserves in South Africa, featuring branded residences, and an exclusive member’s club.
Jumeirah’s move into Africa with this first of its kind offering, highlights the hospitality brand’s ongoing strategy to grow, and diversify its portfolio, and these two new properties reflect the brands ethos of connecting people and culture, through distinctive and meaningful experiences. Jumeirah Thanda Safari will continue to be engaged in several critical conservation programmes, including the flagship Project Rhino KZN - an intensive anti-poaching and conservation collaboration - and the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project, which looks to increase the population of this critically endangered species in the wild. Jumeirah Thanda Island will also continue its attention on ocean stewardship initiatives including coral reef restoration and a programme to protect endangered sea turtles – mirroring long-standing marine conservation initiatives Jumeirah has in place at several properties.
New Opening - Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab
Closer to home in Dubai, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is set to welcome guests from the end of Q1 2025, completing the nautical trilogy with sail-shaped Jumeirah Burj Al Arab and wave-like Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai’s architectural icons. The allure of life by the ocean, deeply rooted in Dubai's heritage, has inspired a visionary partnership between trailblazing architect Shaun Killa and Jumeirah. Together, they have crafted an uplifting and revolutionary lifestyle experience at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab.

Upgrades across the global portfolio
In addition to international expansion Jumeirah is also reinvesting in the existing portfolio, including Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s 19 renovated Al Bahar Villas, offering a blend of earthy elegance and barefoot luxury within the lush surroundings of the iconic family destination. Marking a new chapter for the hotel, the new villas promise to turn every stay into a cherished experience, providing a sanctuary where families, and loved ones can make meaningful memories and feel entirely at ease. Available in one-, two-, and three-bedroom configurations, each of the 19 private villas feature generous living spaces and stylish modern interiors with elegant Arabesque finishes, designed by Sahar Al Yaseer of Dubai-born La Bottega UAE.
