Frieze Art Fair

Founded by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, the creators of the art magazine Frieze, the eponymous art fair began in London in 2003. It is a contemporary art festival and has branched out to New York, Los Angeles, and Seoul.
As Frieze focuses on modern art, it is known to encourage and promote the works of young talent. Pam Evelyn, Amoako Boafo, and Hoda Kashiha are some of the rising stars who have earned great exposure at the fair.
Celebrity figures like Claudia Schiffer, David Bowie, and Alexander McQueen have graced the art gala on its opening days.

Art Basel

Perhaps the most esteemed among art fairs in the world, Art Basel was established as a privately owned and managed, for-profit annual event in Basel, Switzerland, in 1970 by gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner, and Balz Hilt. It is now hosted annually in Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Paris as well.
The exhibition showcases art of the 20th and 21st centuries from over 200 galleries and works of over 4,000 artists from around the world. More than 95,000 visitors turn up to each display. The exhibition is a prestigious platform for upcoming artists to exhibit their work.
The event includes panel discussions, film, and photography. Acclaimed artists like Maurizio Cattelan, Serge Attukwei Clottey, and Anne Imhof have exhibited here. Top celebrities are known to make their presence felt at Art Basel, such as Jeff Bezos, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Lionel Messi.

ARCOmadrid

Beginning in 1982, ARCOmadrid is the conceptualization of Institución Ferial de Madrid (IFEMA) as one of the major contemporary art fairs in Spain. Showcasing over 200 galleries from 30 countries, a special guest country is selected each year with a special theme. The fair is a stage for the display of works by artists from Europe and Latin America. The 2024 edition of ARCOmadrid will feature the Caribbean as its theme and will present works from the island nations. The works of stellar names such as John Baldessari, Rosa Barba, and Stephen Balkenhol have been presented at this fair.

The European Fine Art Fair

Established in 1988, The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) is considered the most eminent fair for fine art, antiques, and design – showcasing 7,000 years of art and history together. Held in Maastricht, Netherlands, it showcases over 260 dealers from about 20 countries. Along with Old Master paintings, the fair also exhibits antiques, photography, jewelry, 20th-century design, and works on paper. Hitomi Hosono, Leiko Ikemura, and Heinz Mack are some of the honored artists whose works have been showcased here.

India Art Fair

Inaugurated in 2008, the India Art Fair, held annually in Delhi, showcases modern and contemporary art from India and South Asia. The largest art fair in India, it showcases paintings, photography, prints, mixed media, drawings, sculptures, and video art. The 2024 edition will feature a Design Section for the first time, exhibiting limited edition and handmade collectible furniture, jewelry, and fabrics by studios. Merci Thamshamgpha, Mayuri Chari, and Siddharth Gohil will be some of the leading names in the upcoming edition.

La Biennale di Venezia

The Venice Biennale is one of the oldest art and cultural exhibitions, set up in 1895 by the Venice City Council. This pioneer of biennales – upon which all other biennales in the world are modeled – is a celebration of art, architecture, cinema, dance, music, and theatre.
The event displays new contemporary art trends and conducts educational activities, conferences, and training programs at its Biennale College. The main exhibition is held in Castello, which holds art and architecture events. The rest of the cultural events are held across various locations in Venice.
The historic art fair boasts the display of iconic artists like Gustav Klimt, Renoir, and Picasso in its initial years. There are 30 permanent national pavilions at the biennale that host the participant countries' exhibits at each edition.

The Armory Show

Commenced in 1994, The Armory Show was the brainchild of dealers Colin de Land, Lisa Spellman, Matthew Marks, Pat Hearn, and Paul Morris. It is held at the 69th Regiment Armory building in New York. The format of the art exhibition includes five sections that showcase contemporary and modern art.
A landmark in New York’s cultural identity, the fair is a podium for established and emerging artists whose works deviate from the mainstream. Prominent artists whose works have been featured include John Divola, Teresita Fernández, and Young-Il Ahn.

FIAC International Contemporary Art Fair

Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) International Contemporary Art Fair was established in 1974 in Paris. It is an annual spectacle of some of the most admirable creations in painting, installations, sculpture, performances, photography, videos, and digital arts.
Outdoor venues like Jardin Des Tuileries, Musee National Eugene-Delacroix, and Place Vendome serve as locales for large-scale and monumental works like architectural works, sculptures, and performances. About 1,500 artists’ creations are exhibited at the different venues of the fair.
Distinguished artists like Alexander Calder, George Condo, and Thomas Houseago have displayed their creations at the fair.

Art Cologne

Established by gallerists Hein Stünke and Rudolph Zwirner in 1967 in Cologne, Germany, Art Cologne is one of the most respected annual international art fairs. Held in the Cologne Exhibition Centre – one of the largest exhibition centers in the world – the fair sees a footfall of around 60,000 visitors. Artworks from a wide range of styles – from Classical Modernism to contemporary art – are featured at Art Cologne. The fair provides a great stage for young German artists to gain international exposure. The fair is exalted not just as a place for selling art but as a notable site for networking and exchange for the international art community. Babajide Olatunji, Jenny Holzer, and Nora Turato are some of the influential artists who have exhibited here.

Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival

In its present form, the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival began in 1985; however, the festival’s original concept dates back to 1963. Taking place in Harbin, China, it is the largest ice and snow festival in the world. The fair sees visitor counts to the tune of 18 million. Held from late December onwards, ice sculptures are created around the city, with two main exhibition areas – Sun Island and Ice and Snow World. The latter features full-size buildings made from ice.
