A Heart of Tuscany - Como Castello del Nero

Poets, dreamers and hedonists come to Tuscany to roam the green hills shrouded in mist, explore medieval cities, admire Renaissance masterpieces and taste the best wines. Yet, one of the most important goals is to find the perfect starting point to experience the beauty of Tuscany and fall in love with it forever. iPremium Editors have succeeded in doing just that.

The Como Castello del Nero is, in fact, Tuscany in miniature, and the best the region has to offer: great views, untouched nature, centuries of history and classic luxury. Housed in a 12th century castle, set within 740 acres amidst the rolling hills of the Chianti region.

Castello del Nero is just 30 minutes from Florence's airport, 75 minutes from Pisa's airport, and three hours from Rome's airport. Here, you can spend hours strolling along olive groves and vineyards, whose territory covers roughly 300 hectares, and live in one of the 50 real work of art rooms. Renowned Milanese designer Paola Navone gave the interiors a modern look, but carefully preserved the magnificent frescoes and panels of the 18th century.

Rooms are spacious and cool-toned — some with original eighteenth-century frescoes — overlooking the surrounding hills, woods, lawns and lines of Tuscan cypress trees.

We recommend staying at one of the 90 sq meters Suites or at the SAN LUIGI VILLA. COMO Terrace Suite represents the ultimate in luxury Tuscan accommodation or the Loft spacious suite which is split over two levels, with a bedroom on the loft.

The headline villa SAN LUIGI embodies Tuscan luxury with a private check-in experience, infinity pool, panoramic views and five bedrooms that sleep up to 14 guests.

People go to Castello del Nero for silence and simple joys that fill the body and soul with peace. Here you can swim in the heated outdoor thermal pool, have picnics among the trees, pick mushrooms in your own forest and learn how to make gelato from fresh berries. And if you are after unforgettable experiences, we recommend flying in a hot air balloon over the hills and vineyards or going hunting for truffles.

Showcasing the abundant white truffle that graces the region year after year, the Truffle Festival of San Miniato is just a short drive away and takes place on the second, third and fourth weekend of November.

Weddings at COMO Castello Del Nero are always special given our storied location in the Tuscan hills, where we have our own private 12th-century chapel.

Speaking of culinary delights, star chef Giovanni di Pirra is in charge of gastronomy here. The Michelin-starred restaurant La Torre serves divine pasta with truffles and lamb with onion sauce. Of course, accompanied by wines from their own cellar.

The hotel’s Grapes of Chianti experience offers guests the chance to try their hands – or feet – at winemaking, using the traditional ‘pigéage’ method, following a guided walk around the estate to learn about the harvest process and the creation of Chianti wine.

COMO Castello Del Nero’s new programs include a masterclass in Chianti wine-making and an olive oil harvesting experience, plus a Thanksgiving celebration with a cooking class led.

A world-class spa with an impressive menu, the Shambhala Retreat wellness center deserves special attention. It is an elegant, cocooning sanctuary of wellness with views of the surrounding Tuscan hillsides. Bespoke massages, revitalizing soaks in the thermal suites, and summer swims in a 25-metre heated outdoor pool. Be sure to try the signature “chakra balancing” treatment, a massage with freshly squeezed olive oil and a stone therapy for energetically active zones.

After sunbathing at the outdoor pool and relaxing at the Spa, spend a cozy evening by the fireplace with your beloved’s with a glass of the excellent house wine. Meditate and find yourself “at the present moment “ looking at unlimited surroundings of beautiful Tuscany landscapes. Enjoy an Italian picnic, accompanied by wine, olive oil tasting experiences and views of the rolling hills with COMO Castello Del Nero.
