Runway-approved colors and styles to see you through the season

Deviating from the norm, Spring/Summer 2024 runway trends showed us more muted palettes instead of the typical riot of colors and florals emblematic of the season. Collections ranged from clean whites at Versace and Valentino to pastel lilacs by Michael Kors and Masha Popova. But it isn’t all mild and subtle, as red dominated as a break to the pale hues. And with the rising heat, everything goes mini – skirts, shorts, and dresses. Read on to get yourself ready with our curated list of Spring/Summer 2024 Fashion Trends.

Breezy Whites

Nothing symbolizes summer like airy whites. Whether it’s sheer, embroidered, lacy, or classic linen; you’ll never go wrong with whites to take you through the season. From flawlessly tailored shirts and trousers to intricate cut-out dresses, designers like Valentino, Stella McCartney, and Giambattista Valli showed off their haute couture collections in the milky color.

High-Rise Waists

Low-rise waistlines seem like a thing of the distant past, as high-waist trousers, shorts, and skirts continue to have their time under the sun. A welcome sight that gives a lengthening effect to the legs, they also help conceal unflattering waists and are much loved by all shapes and sizes. Their popularity got the stamp of approval from the likes of Saint Laurent, Chanel, and Emporio Armani in their SS 24 selections.

Modern rosettes

This year sees an emphasis on the feminine, augmented by the rosette motif. From a traditional rose wound up on the shoulder or waist to inspired designs such as curled-up tulle, flaunt the queen of flowers in all its glory in the upcoming season. The trend was ushered in the SS 24 showcasing by leading design houses like Alexander McQueen, Balmain, and Burberry.

Polo Shirts

Now here’s a trend that’s set to disrupt conventional spring and summer fashion styles as we know them so far. Polo shirts sprung a surprise on runways this time as top names like Givenchy, The Row, and Chanel had a field day in the collared shirts. Auguring a nonchalant sporty vibe to the season, Polo shirts were seen teamed up with ruffled miniskirts, shift dresses, and shorts.

Sheer Skirts

The feminine energy flows on with sheer skirts that are perfect for day and night. An instant picker-upper, choose your vibe with racy silhouettes – from a vampy coupling with thigh-high boots or soft layers to add a graceful tone. Take cues from Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior with their SS 24 numbers.

Red Riot

Red has been dominating runways and red carpets since last winter, and it continues to have its refreshing run in its summer avatars. Expect to see cherry red ruling everywhere – from pencil skirts to blazers, tights, and bralettes. A much-needed pop of color, it was profusely showcased by the likes of Gucci, Burberry, and Chanel. Go beyond clothing to include it in footwear and bags.

Pastel Lilacs

Pastels are inextricably linked to spring-summer, and this time, it is lilac that’s taking the spotlight. Adorning breezy fabrics like cotton and linen, flirty lace and sheers, to satiny plains, this fresh hue pleases with its subtle yet memorable look. Flaunted by Michael Kors, Supriya Lele, and Issey Miyake, lilac is being embraced in both clothing and accessories alike.

Sky Blues

Reflecting the skies of the season, sky blue takes center stage as the soothing shade for the year. Adorning fluttering tassels, form-fitting silhouettes, and creative cut-outs, this shade of blue commanded the runways for JW Anderson, Bottega Veneta, and Hodakova. Extend the color into your makeup with azure eyes and cerulean nails. Complement the outfits with accessories in neutrals.

Golden Glows

If you’re looking to make a statement this season, then shine brighter than the sun in liquid gold. If you thrive on creating ripples, metallics are your go-to. Exude goddess vibes with a sleek one-shouldered gown like this Ralph Lauren showstopper. Or play it cool with muted shimmers like Di Petsa. The color is best flaunted in flowing silhouettes and statement accessories.

Fringe Benefits

Make waves, literally, with fringes and tassels this season. From flowy hemlines to flapping sleeves, create movement with this visually arresting style. Add drama with embellished crystals, gilded edges, and shimmery strips. Wear them on anything from drop-waist dresses and midi skirts to leather barn jackets and handbags. If Prada, Gucci, and Givenchy owned it on the ramps, so can you.
