Timeless Design, Sustainable Future: Artek’s Journey from Tradition to Innovation

News

Innovative Design with a Nod to the Past

Artek, founded by Alvar Aalto, has always balanced innovation with tradition. This Finnish design house remains committed to Aalto's legacy while embracing contemporary trends. Classic designs, such as Aalto's Stool 60, have been reimagined with modern twists. For instance, collaborations with artists have introduced new colors and finishes to timeless pieces, ensuring they remain relevant in modern interiors.

Sustainability in Design

Sustainability is at the core of Artek's philosophy. From sourcing materials responsibly to implementing eco-friendly production processes, Artek strives to minimize its environmental impact. A notable collaboration with Formafantasma highlights this commitment. The use of "wild birch," sourced sustainably, showcases how traditional materials can be employed in innovative, eco-friendly ways.

Future Directions: Blending Art, Technology, and Sustainability

Artek’s vision for the future involves a seamless blend of art, technology, and sustainability. Upcoming projects aim to further this integration, reflecting in their limited edition collections like the one with Tekla.
The limited edition collection with Tekla from ARTEK is a collaboration celebrating the 130th anniversary of Finnish designer Aino Aalto. This collection, featuring the Kirsikankukka pattern, is inspired by Aalto's love for Japanese art and design, particularly a cherry blossom motif she received as a gift in the 1930s
The collection includes high-quality percale cotton bedding, woven with a 200 thread count and lightly stonewashed, available in white, blue, and pink. It also marks Tekla's debut in kids' bedding, inspired by a baby bed designed by Aalto. This collaboration emphasizes the shared values of both companies: simplicity, honest design, and high-quality craftsmanship.

Artek’s journey from tradition to innovation underscores a commitment to design that honors the past while looking forward to a sustainable future.
