Founded in 1954 by Aurelio Zanotta, Zanotta is pivotal in Italian design, initially producing sofas and armchairs. Embracing innovative design since the 1960s, Zanotta gained international recognition for its advancements. At Milan Design Week, Zanotta reintroduced historical pieces: Cuculia bowl and Dealbata vases by Alessandro Mendini, Sosia mirror by Ugo La Pietra, and Ara Fenice centerpiece by Piero Bottoni, celebrating Italian design legacy and Mendini's blend of aesthetics and functionality.
The glazed clay vases, available in white or glossy orange, with hand-applied decorative details, and the rigid polyurethane bowl with a two-tone glossy lacquer finish, showcase the craftsmanship and aesthetic research that characterize Mendini's work.
The Sosia mirror by Ugo La Pietra is a dynamic canvas showcasing the architect's imagination, with objects and forms crowding its edge. This profusion evokes the experimental and innovative spirit of radical architecture's "utopian quest".
The Ara Fenice centerpiece by Zanotta, a tribute to Piero Bottoni, is more than just furniture. It carries historical significance, transporting viewers through the time and space of art and design.
The Fenice table was created in 1936 by Piero Bottoni, initially made from cast concrete and anchored to the floor of Villa Muggia in Imola. Bottoni redesigned it three times, changing materials and proportions. In the 1940s, he used walnut and pear wood, and in 1951, a four-meter concrete version was displayed at the IX Triennale di Milano. Reintroduced in 2016, Zanotta used Bottoni's original drawings and advanced technologies to make the table lighter and eco-friendly, maintaining his original vision.
