We all know that good sleep is crucial for overall well-being, and the choice of bed linen plays a significant role in achieving that. Bedding can be a great way to add some accent to your bedroom. The choice of bedding today is very wide - both in terms of material and in terms of colours.
One of the new brands of bed linen is the Japanese brand Majotae. Mojotae is a textile brand that employs modern technology to revive the original qualities of hemp cloth, which has been used since ancient times. The hand-spun and hand-woven process (the method of producing hemp cloth before the 19th century) has been thoroughly researched and replaced by modern state-of-the-art technology to achieve a smooth, soft and shiny texture. The aim is to change everyday behaviour and create a new lifestyle and culture through the existence of hemp cloth, which also has a low environmental impact and can be used for a long time.
Designed by Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio, the first collection launch was marked with a two-part exhibition in Milan, showcasing the innovative new range alongside majotaeās extensive collection of archival hemp items from Japan. The new collection of luxury bedding exemplifies the many benefits of utilising hemp fibre, including its thermo-regulating, antibacterial, and odour-resistant properties. The name of the collection - majotae 9490, refers to the number of days the average person sleeps in their lifetime, and how the range is designed to enhance this experience. The collection spans flat sheets (180x260cm; 260x260cm), duvet covers (170x210cm; 220x220cm), and pillow cases (50x30cm; 60x40cm; 75x50cm).
Each item is made in Japan from 100% hemp. Fabric waste, produced during the yarn-making process, is embedded into the material of the pillowcases, enhancing their unique texture. Subtle design details punctuate the collection in the form of concealed buttons set within kimono-inspired fabric folds, securing the duvet covers and pillowcases. A palette of ten contemporary hues enliven the range, from Blush Pink, to Sea Green and Bone White.
